Ice-breaker 2

Overview

Ice-breaker 2 (IB2) would be conducted in the same format and could take place 2-4 weeks after IB1. 

With this being the second session organised by you, it will be important for you to utilise the familiarity from IB1 to make participants feel comfortable and to initiate conversations. 

The introduction time for IB2 would be shorter since the format would remain the same. In case there are participants who aren’t aware of the format, you should ask other participants to catch them up. 

Keeping this in mind, IB2 would broadly consist of three components:

  1. Introduction: This would include greeting everyone and introducing the first question.  
  2. Breakout rooms: This would include conversations between participants in breakout rooms where participants could be given questions they could answer. 
  3. Open house: This would be an open conversation between all participants where they could speak on anything that they are interested in.

Session Structure

IB2 would include initiating further conversations and increase familiarity amongst everyone. While the broad structure of using breakout rooms would remain the same, the questions could change to engage participants more deeply.

Keeping the same 60-minute duration for breakout rooms in mind, there should be 3 rounds of breakout rooms sessions i.e., each participant should be a part of 3 rounds of breakout rooms, with each breakout room round being 20 minutes long. 

To encourage participants to think out of the box, an example of a situation-based question is provided below.

Round 1: You have a time machine where if you go 1 year back, you can only go 1 year forward. Similarly, if you go 20 years back, you would only be able to go 20 years forward. How many years back would you go back in time and what would you change?

Round 2: Travel the same number of years forward i.e. if you went 20 years back from 2021, then you would be 2041, which is 20 years after 2021. Tell the others what you see based on that change?

Round 3: Do you think you would trust anybody else with this ability to go back in time, make a change, and aptly predict a positive consequence in the future?

To facilitate this, the broad structure of the session would be:

Part 2B: 2nd round of breakout rooms15 minutes + 5 minutesThe second round of breakout rooms should be created. Participants should be provided with one question that they should answer. Groups in this round should be different than the groups in the first round.

Part 2C: 3rd round of breakout rooms15 minutes + 5 minutesThe third round of breakout rooms should be created. Participants should be provided with one question that they should answer. Groups in this round should be different than the groups in the first and second round.

Part 3: Open HousePost breakout roomsOpen House where participants speak on those issues that they are most interested in. Irrespective of the designated time allocated to the session, the Open House should be encouraged to continue even beyond the stipulated time. 

Logistics

Logistics for organising IB2 includes the following:

  1. Invitation email and WhatsApp message
  2. Calendar invite
  3. Message on WhatsApp Group

Each of these communications should be sent at regular time intervals in the days preceding IB1. Here are the templates for the communications.
